Man arrested for DUI after going twice legal speed limit

In the early morning hours of Oct. 5, Connecticut authorities charged a man with DUI and drug possession after he was pulled over for driving twice the legal speed limit. The incident took place in Darien.

According to local media reports, an officer with the Darien Police Department saw a black Volkswagen Passat traveling east on Post Road at approximately 1:15 a.m. The car was allegedly going 52 mph in a 25-mph zone. The officer pursued the car and allegedly observed it swerve over the double-yellow lines of the road and almost hit a curb, so he executed a traffic stop.

The officer questioned the driver, a 32-year-old resident of Darien, who reportedly admitted that he had been drinking alcohol earlier that night. The officer asked him to perform several field sobriety tests, which he allegedly failed. The man's vehicle was then searched, and officers claimed they found a plastic bag of marijuana hidden beneath the driver's seat. The man was arrested and given a breath test at a local police station. His blood alcohol content level was allegedly .19, which is more than twice the legal limit. He has been charged with operating under the influence, failure to drive right, driving too fast for the conditions and possession of narcotics. He was released on a $250 bond.

People who are convicted on a DUI charge could face a number of harsh consequences, including jail time, steep fines and the loss of driving privileges. Given the high stakes, it might be helpful for them to contact a criminal defense attorney as soon as possible so that a strategy to combat the allegations can be constructed.
