Teen faces drunk driving charge after accident

On Behalf of | Apr 30, 2020 | Drunk Driving

A 19-year-old man is facing serious charges following a devastating accident that totaled his vehicle and sent two passengers to the hospital. Police in Cortland, Connecticut, arrested the man, who now faces a drunk driving charge. He has been ordered to appear in a Cortland court in May to face the charge, at which point he will be represented by a criminal defense attorney.

According to the limited information available in the report, it appears that around 1:40 the morning of April 25, the man was driving his sedan on Pendleton Street when he attempted to negotiate a curve in the road. He appears to have lost control of his vehicle, causing it to leave the road and hit a culvert pipe. This in turn caused the vehicle to turn over onto its side and strike several signs before coming to rest.

Two passengers were taken to a local hospital with injuries described as minor. The driver was uninjured in the crash, but police at the scene suspected him of being intoxicated. It is unclear whether they performed any roadside sobriety testing or breath/blood tests, but he was arrested on scene regardless. He faces charges including DUI, unreasonable speed, driving across hazard markings and failure to keep right.

drunk driving charge can spell the end of a young person’s driving career and cause adverse effects well into his or her adult years. This is why a criminal defense attorney will carefully review the facts of the case, including any evidence police wish to present to the Connecticut prosecutors. This will help the attorney to build a compelling case in the teen’s defense.
